I loved this song as a child. I also listened to Jean Michel Jarre, Brian Eno, and Vangelis and the other electronic artists of the 80s, so the structure of this piece did not feel strange to me. edit: I also loved my parents' copy of the soundtrack to Suspiria by Goblin. This might help to explain why I loved this as well.

krautrock but also early electronic pioneers of german music is a rabbit hole. funny thing is, I am german and yet americans, to be more specific Paul Riedl from Blood Incantation whom I interviewed once opened this genre totally new for me and I did not bother with it one bit before... but stuff like Einstürzende Neubauten, CAN, Neu!, Klaus Schulze, Tangerine Dream, also stuff like Kraftwerk and many others had such a big inspiration on lots of different genres from techno to metal to world music all over the world and it makes me a little bit proud. weird entry point indeed, my favorite is probably "Kontinuum", but lots of cool stuff in the discography.

I don't know what it is about sci-fi/weird/proggy death metal, but I'm right there with you with how much it interests me as well. It would be cool to see Brian react to more Artificial Brain or some others like Afterbirth, Blood Incantation, Cosmic Putrefaction, Demilich, or Ulthar. There are many others but these are the ones that have stood out to me out of what I've listened to.

You're the second person I've seen on RUclips react to this album in full, let alone any other Tomb Mold album. I'm honestly pretty surprised to see more reactions but I am extremely happy for that. There was something about this band that drew me in and I've been hooked ever since. I would also recommend the guitarist Derrick Vella's other band Dream Unending, like others have already commented. If you're looking for a different, murkier sound to this band, I would recommend giving their second album Manor of Infinite Forms a listen. Great reaction!

It's so amazing that the first Nina Hagen album is still being recognized 40 plus years after its recording. Back then, few in America paid Nina much attention, but years later it's obvious she was too far ahead of her time to be appreciated by Americans in the late '70's.

The Brave Little Abacus is one of those rare gems that transcends the boundaries of its genre, leaving a lasting impact on its listeners. This album, which can be described as the epitome of experimental emo, is a kaleidoscope of vibrant and colorful instrumentation, brutally raw vocals, and chaotic drums that somehow blend it all into an utterly mesmerizing piece of art. I might be a little late on this one, but please, Bryan, check them out more. You seem like a really open-minded (eared? lol) dude who would really enjoy their stuff! Cheers!

Amazing song! The use of the seven-pulse in an unusual way is so good. And I'm happy to see the E-bow in a pop context rather than the usual post-rock/more texture-based alt rock that usually utilizes it. The whole band is tight and Willow's vocals are just lovely but with enough gravitas and grit. This was definitely the most interesting song of the bunch for me, mostly because of how odd it is for its genre. Great insight as always, Bryan!

If you want any dissonant metal albums to review I highly reconmend checking out "Deathspell omega Fas - Ite, Maledicti, in Ignem Aeternum". that album is pretty influential within the black metal scene and I have yet to see any album reactions to it. That album was highly influenced by Avant-garde Classical composers like Penderecki and wyschnegradsky.

This album is fantastic and I cannot begin to count how many times I've watched it. At least in the hundreds Actually I started to fall in love with this album because I started seeing a story. Every time I listened, each song had some new detail, some vivid imagery, some new story thread to weave together the melancholic story of a boy and a girl's awkward love blooming into a beautiful relationship. All before tragedy strikes and the boy becomes convicted and convinced of his guilt. Put through the horrors of the psychiatric ward in the 1970's. From the electro therapy to the blank white padded rooms. All to be released years later when evidence comes up to reveal the real killer. And during his descent into madness he begins to see the soul of the woman, who cries for him, urging him to live. Before he sets sail to sea, jumping off the boat and drowning. And after his death his soul reunites with the woman, finally seeing past the fuzzy white that obscured her, finally remembering her. And their one last dance beneath the waves, their last stroll on the beach, before they both walk out into the bright light of the heavens together. Honestly that's just a very bare bones rundown of the story I found. In my mind there is so much more. If I could draw I would have an entire storyboard, an animatic flowing from one song to the next creating an entire movie. The whole album is one big story. There is no break between them. They aren't scattered across a timeline. The whole story is there in chronological order.

The Quintessential keyboard rock trio and arguably one of the 5 most influential prog bands of all time, Alongside Floyd, Crimson, Yes and Genesis. Keith Emerson's idiosyncratic use of fourth chords, ostinatos, the Hammond organ as the solist instrument and the orchestration with Moog synthesizers was much more influential then most realize. Back in the early seventies many considered them as the most innovative and cutting edge band in the world, and Keith Emerson won all the keyboard players polls back in those days and is still considered as the most influential rock keyboardist in history. Carl Palmer was also among the leading drummers of his generation, contributing from his knowledge as a classical percussionist to the counterpoint in Keith's ferocious keyboardparts, not to forget Greg Lake which was the voice of early King Crimson and one of Rocks most influential records. The composer in me love pieces like Tarkus and Karn Evil 9 for their complexity and musical depth and also Keith's understanding of musical shape as a whole, Keith really knows his use of lied motives and sonic markers and in my opinion Keith was the best at writing those long prog epics with many movements, when many prog bands especially in prog metal i find, write music that has many interesting ideas but in the end end up not coming together all that well, in favor of technique and demonstrating chops, one of the reasons to why i as a young music listener is still more attracted to that old prog rock music, when keyboards was a bigger driving force and before the shredding revolution on guitar became the staple in modern prog music. Although different eras and there is much good prog being made today as well. But i think Keith is still the Goat for keyboardists alongside Chick Corea and Joe Zawinul. Keiths music, especially Tarkus was a big influence to video game composers such as Noebu Uematsu and Koji kondo, especially when writing music for boss fights. Also Takashi Uoshimatsu appreciated Keiths music enough to arrange a orchestral rendition of Tarkus with the Tokyo Philharmonic orchestra. Aron Copeland also went to four ELP concerts, and Argentinian composer Alberto Ginastera approved and appreciated the bands electronically driven rendition of his Op. 28 Toccata Concertata, to the point where he thought it was the best rendition that he had heard of that piece, calling it terrific.
